MDNA To Play CHCGO In SPTMBR

Did you know Madonna's halftime show was the most watched EVER with 114 million viewers tuning in? And despite the obvious lip synching we found it to be one of the more entertaining mid-game outings in years. There was no wardrobe malfunction, no crotch slides into the camera, no huge phallic silhouettes; there was plenty of glitz and glam but it was all topped off by a singer in her 50s with more energy (and a younger glow) than most pop singers a third her age. Not bad, huh?

Madonna's new album MDNA isn't out yet, but based on its first single "Give Me All Your Luvin'" it seems Madge is content to keep beating the younger artists at their own game while losing none of her, erm, self-confidence. O.K., the bed of that song constantly repeating the chanted "L-U-V Madonna" is a bit too self-confident even for our tastes. But jeez, at this point does anyone expect subtelty from Madonna? Did they ever?

On the crest of her Super Bowl appearance, and the eve of MDNA's release, Madonna has announced her first string of tour dates and one of them brings her into the bosom of our fair city with a stop at the United Center on September 19. Tickets don't go on sale to the general public until February 13* but you might want to start refreshing your browser now, because this date looks to be the only one in the Midwest. Heck, Madge is (so far) even skipping Detroit so you could view the Chicago gig as the closest to a de facto homecoming show.

You don't have to wait unti September to see Madonna bounce all over the place though, check out the video for "Give Me All Your Luvin'" below right now.

UPDATE (2/13) - Madonna announced she'll be playing two shows in Chicago this fall, adding a Sept. 20 show at United Center.

*Citicard you have access to presale tickets beginning February 8 though.

I thought she was pretty good, and watching her sing Like a Prayer at the Superbowl was simply surreal.  She should've popped open a Pepsi at the end of it.

  • I thought the Prince halftime show in '07 was better, but Madonna was pretty good. As my significant other said, she proved once and for all that Gaga's just a pale imitation.

Prince did that shadow curtain thing and used his guitar to make his silhouette look like he had a giant erect horse penis, and all while it was pouring rain.  That's tough to beat.

  • That's tough to beat.

That's not what the horse said.

After the performance Prince was feeling a little horse...

She looked great, I'll never understand these attacks on her age/looks.  That said, what really was there to her performance, without all the hired help/token artists, and spectacle brought along to boost and sell the product?

  • "we found it to be one of the more entertaining mid-game outings in years"  I claim to be no expert on halftime shows and not even sure I've seen more than a few, but you really ought to set your sights a little higher, no?  Madonna was lame, just like the rest.
