A 69-year-old man is in serious condition after he was shot on Tuesday morning during a robbery attempt while he worked on a van in South Lawn.

The victim and another person were working on the vehicle in the street, in the 2700 block of West 60th Street, at around 10:35 a.m. when a teen rode up on a bike and pulled out a gun. The victim would not turn over any valuables, then the gunman shot through the van, hitting the man in the stomach, according to police.

The victim was taken to Stroger Hospital in serious condition, police said.

The shooter took off east on the bike. No one was in custody as of Tuesday morning.

Police said the gunman wore a black hoodie, blue jeans and white shoes and was described as being between 15 and 17 years old.
