Tights Schedule: Superman to Turn Chicago Into Metropolis

2011_07_superman_AP.jpg Last August Transformers 3 filming wreaked havoc on local commutes but provided lots of fun photos and plenty to gawk at. This time it's Warner Brothers' reboot of the Superman franchise which will have downtown locations occupied by large film crews, plenty of curious onlookers and, yes, a few stars.

Chicago Film Office Director Richard Moskal confirmed with Crain's that filming in Chicago locations will take place from August 7 to 17. The Zack Snyder-directed Man of Steel has so far gone under the stripper-esque code name of "Autumn Frost" when issuing its mobbed local casting call. Plano, IL will apparently be standing in for rural Kansas next month, as well.

The stars to look for are primarily newly-minted Clark Kent/Superman Henry Cavill, Amy Adams in the role of Lois Lane and former Chicagoan and Chicagoist fave Michael Shannon as the villain General Zod. We imagine if Diane Lane and Kevin Costner, the actors cast as Superman's adoptive parents, will be on location, it is likely to be in Plano.

Get those cameras ready, as the snapshots you get during filming are likely to be the only images we see for some time. The film's release date recently pushed back from the holiday season to June 2013, and with no deal yet reached between Warner Brothers and the estates of Superman creators Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster (to whom the rights revert in 2013), there's a chance the future of this incarnation of the franchise may depend on the first installment's success.
