We'd argue that one of the best comedy scenes filmed in 2011 is the food poisoning scene from the movie Bridesmaids. Ever since it came out, folks have been acting shocked to "discover" women are capable of being funny and even - gasp! - raunchy. Lots of people also "discovered" actress Melissa McCarthy, the Plainfield native who takes a dump in a sink, steals puppies and steals scenes through the whole of Bridesmaids.

It's been a banner year for McCarthy. She also won the Emmy for best actress in a comedy in September for her sitcom Mike & Molly, which, come on, we all know she won for her Bridesmaids performance more than for that mediocre fat joke-laden sitcom. She also hosted a raucous episode of Saturday Night Live in October. Those who knew McCarthy from Gilmore Girls are saying "I told you so," to those just now discovering her. And so are the YouTube fans of Marbles Harsgrove.

McCarthy and her husband Ben Falcone used to make these videos of "YouTube Star Marbles Harsgrove." In the video below from 2008, Marbles laments the lack of Oscar nominations for the abominable 2007 film License to Wed, starring Robin Williams, Mandy Moore and John Krasinski. We're sure Marbles would be heartened to find out that her alter-ego Melissa has been nominated for an Academy Award.
